Long Drive
One swing for bragging rights: the longest drive that finishes in the fairway wins the hole.
What it is
A long drive contest picks out one or more par 4s or par 5s where the longest tee shot wins. The drive usually has to finish in the fairway, so it rewards hitting it long and straight rather than just long.
On a trip it's often run for the big hitters only, with a prize or the title on the line, alongside the main competition.
How scoring works
- 1.Choose the long drive holes (par 4s and par 5s) and who is competing.
- 2.On each long drive hole, players tee off as normal.
- 3.The longest drive that finishes in the fairway wins; groups mark the leading ball for the groups behind.
- 4.Record the winner for each hole and announce the winners after the round.
How Sunday Singles runs it
- Pick the holes
Any par 4s and par 5s (all of them by default).
- Pick who's in
Everyone, or just the long hitters.
- Record and show
The scorer records the winner on each hole, and the winners show on the leaderboard's prizes tab. It's a prize game, with no money handled in the app.
Handicaps
No handicap: it's a straight measure of distance. Some groups let higher handicappers play from a forward tee for the contest.
Best for
Trips with a few long hitters who want their own contest, member-guests and outings with prizes, and any round where you want a moment everyone talks about at dinner.
Score Long Drive automatically
Sunday Singles handles the handicaps, the scoring, and a live TV leaderboard for the whole trip. Set up your first round free.
Common questions
Does the long drive have to be in the fairway?
Usually yes. The longest drive that finishes in the fairway wins, which keeps it about control as well as distance. Agree on the rule before the round.
How many long drive holes should a round have?
One or two is typical for an outing; trips often run one per nine. More holes give more players a chance to win one.
