The aggressive cousin of Stableford. Eagles pay big, birdies pay well, and blow-ups actually cost you points.
What it is
Modified Stableford turns up the volatility. Instead of a gentle ladder, it pays heavily for going low and subtracts points for going high, which rewards attacking golf.
It is the system the PGA Tour uses at the Barracuda Championship. The points swings make aggressive play pay off and make protecting a lead genuinely hard.
How scoring works
- 1.Play each hole to your net score.
- 2.Convert using the modified table: albatross 8, eagle 5, birdie 2, par 0, bogey -1, double bogey or worse -3.
- 3.Sum points across 18 holes; negatives are real and pull your total down.
- 4.Highest total wins. The reward for eagles and the penalty for blow-ups both scale up from standard Stableford.
Handicaps
Net modified Stableford applies course handicap by stroke index just like standard Stableford; only the points values change.
Best for
Groups who find standard Stableford too safe and want a format that rewards going for par-5s in two and punishes bailouts. High variance, high drama.
