Skins
A pot on every hole. Win the hole outright and the skin is yours. Tie it and the skin carries forward, worth more.
What it is
Skins is a hole-by-hole betting game you run alongside any format. Every hole is worth one skin, and the golfer with the lowest score on that hole wins it outright.
The twist is the carryover: if two or more players tie for low, nobody wins the hole and the skin carries to the next one. Skins stack until someone finally wins a hole clean, then they sweep every skin that has piled up.
How scoring works
- 1.Every hole is a skin. Players buy into one pot for the round.
- 2.Lowest score on a hole wins that skin outright.
- 3.If two or more tie for lowest, no one wins — the skin carries to the next hole, so that hole is now worth two (or more).
- 4.Carried skins keep stacking until a hole is won outright; that winner takes all the accumulated skins.
- 5.At the end, each player's skins won convert to money against the pot. Skins stay hidden until every match in the session is finalized, then reveal on the leaderboard.
Skins scoring options
Choose how handicaps apply when you turn skins on for a trip or a session:
- Gross
No handicaps. Raw scores decide every hole — simplest, and it favors the low handicaps.
- Net — Full Strokes
Each player's full course handicap is applied by stroke index, so any ability can win a skin.
- Net — Half Strokes
Half the course handicap is applied — a middle ground that levels the field without erasing skill.
Carryover options
Decide what happens on a tied hole and how the pot pays out — set once at the trip or session level:
- Carry over (classic)
The default. A tied hole's skin carries to the next hole and stacks until someone wins one outright, then they sweep the whole pile.
- No carry — refund unwon
Ties are dead. Each won hole pays its slice, and the value of any hole nobody won refunds equally back to the group.
- No carry — winners take all
Ties are dead and nothing refunds. The full pot splits among everyone who won at least one skin, proportional to how many they won.
- Carry to next session
At the trip level, leftover carryover skins can roll into the next session instead of settling at the end of the round.
Handicaps
Skins can be played gross or net — see the scoring options below. In net play, strokes are allocated by stroke index just like the main format, so a player getting a stroke on a hole competes on their net number.
Best for
Every trip. Skins runs on top of match play or stroke play and keeps every single hole meaningful — even after a match is decided, there is still a skin (and a growing carryover) to chase.

Common questions
Can you turn off skins carryover?
Yes. Carryover is on by default (the classic skins feel), but you can switch it off. With no carry, you pick how the pot pays out: unwon holes refund equally, or winners take all — the pot splits among everyone who won a skin.
What happens when a hole is tied in skins?
With carryover on (the default), nobody wins the hole and the skin carries to the next one, stacking until a player wins a hole outright and sweeps them all. With carryover off, the tied hole is simply dead.
What is the difference between gross and net skins?
Gross uses raw scores with no handicap. Net applies handicap strokes (full or half) by stroke index, letting different abilities compete for the same skins.
Do skins carry over between holes?
Yes. A tied hole carries its skin to the next one, so a run of tied holes builds a big pot for whoever breaks the streak with an outright win.
