Score points against par on every hole. Highest total wins, and a blow-up hole costs you almost nothing.
What it is
Stableford converts your score on each hole into points relative to par, so you are collecting points rather than counting strokes. The highest total after 18 wins.
Because a disaster hole is worth zero points and no worse, you can pick up and move on. That keeps pace fast and keeps everyone in the competition all day.
How scoring works
- 1.Play each hole to your net score (handicap strokes applied).
- 2.Convert to points: bogey scores 1, par 2, birdie 3, eagle 4, albatross 5. A net double bogey or worse scores 0.
- 3.Add your points across all 18 holes.
- 4.Highest points total wins. Across a trip, points totals build the leaderboard.
Handicaps
Stableford uses 100% of course handicap in most casual play, allocated by stroke index. The R&A points table (bogey 1 through albatross 5) is the standard scoring ladder.
Best for
Society days, mixed-ability groups, and windy or hard courses where straight stroke play produces demoralizing numbers. The format that most rewards showing up and staying in it.

Why is Stableford faster than stroke play?
Once you can no longer score a point on a hole you pick up, so blow-up holes do not drag out. That speeds up the whole group.
